Dorothy Caroline Spriggle

Dorothy Caroline Spriggle, 89, formerly of Bay City, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home in Fond du Lac, WI where she had been a resident since 2004. She was born May 25, 1918 in Cannon Falls, MN to Arthur and Adeline (Stapf) Vernstrom. She was confirmed May 21, 1933 in St. Ansgars Lutheran Church and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1936. She graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Red Wing on September 5, 1941 and passed the Minnesota State Board Examination in Nursing on July 1, 1942. On November 3, 1942, she married Lloyd Spriggle and followed him to Alexandria, VA where she worked at the Alexandria Hospital. She and Lloyd raised their family in Bay City, WI where she became an active member of the Bay City Methodist Church, Methodist Ladies Aid, American Legion Auxiliary and Historical Society. Pierce County Extension recognized her with an Outstanding County 4-H Leader Award. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and baking and cooking for friends and relatives. Lloyd died on November 24, 1993.

She is survived by her son Keith (Barb) Spriggle of Bay City, her daughter Sandra (David) Neuendorf of Lomira, WI, a brother Kenneth Vernstrom of Cannon Falls, three grandchildren; Amber (Bruce) Campbell of Red Wing, Phaedra (Robbie) Raethke of Ellsworth and Shawn Spriggle of Norfolk, Virginia; nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and two sisters-in-law; Mary Mills of Cannon Falls, and Anne Nimerfro of Bay City. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, one brother Adelbert Vernstrom , and her sister Velma Doffing.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday October 6, at the Bay City Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Bay City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 pm Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the time of services Saturday at the church.
