Dorothy Ann Scharpen

October 9, 1919 — April 13, 2013

Dorothy Ann Scharpen, 93, of Red Wing, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born on October 9, 1919 in Red Wing to Andrew and Selma (Place) Jess. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. On November 8, 1938 she married Alvin Scharpen in Red Wing. She was a stay at home mom and she raised her two sons, Ron born in 1940 and Kenneth in 1943. She also worked many years for R&S Pharmacy as a clerk. Alvin died in 1976. For a few years following his death she moved to Arizona before moving back to Red Wing. She was a former member of United Lutheran Church in Red Wing and in the past years, has met in homes for church. She had a deep faith, read the Bible regularly and was a member of a number of Bible groups. Her family recalls her love for people and her family and how she enjoyed cooking, baking and music.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Eileen) of St. Peter and Kenneth (Jacquelin) of Grants Pass, Oregon; seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter in law, Kathy Scharpen.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Debby Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to St. Brigid's at Hi-Park.
