OBITUARY

Dorothy Peterson


Dorothy Miller Peterson, 83, of Lake City died Monday, September 17, 2007, at the Lake City Hospital. She was born on November 10, 1923, in Clearwater, Minnesota to Morris A. and Ida (Granzow) Miller. She attended schools in Clearwater and Minneapolis. On December 23, 1942 she was married to Rev. Lester Peterson. They lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin where they pastored a number of Assembly of God Churches, serving twice in Lake City. They also were foster parents to over 100 Vietnamese refugees, which was an ecumenical program sponsored by the local churches in Lake City. She was known as "mom" to all these refugees. Lester died in January 1985. She was a member of the Valley View Assembly of God Church in Lake City. She was a very generous, hospitable and ambitious person and was a friend to all.

Survivors include one son, David (Na) Peterson of Lake City; two daughters, Karen (Gary) Kibler of Cumberland, Wisconsin and LaDon Cheek of Fort Worth, Texas; many foster children, where her heart and home was opened to; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Eileen Keehr of Fort Ripley, Minnesota, Dennis (Marcella) Miller of San Jose, California, E.M. (Rev. Merwin) Miller of Janesville, Minnesota, Lou (Robert) Crawford of Apple Valley, Minnesota Alden (Isabelle) Miller of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota and Roger (Barbara) Miller of Hopkins, Minnesota and David (Lou) Miller of Clearwater, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Loren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2007 at the Valley View Assembly of God Church in Lake City with Rev Orin Sandberg and Rev. Clarence St. John officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Clearwater. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the Fire Bibles and Missions.
