Dorothy E. Neufeldt

Dorothy Evelyn Neufeldt, 87, Red Wing, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at Loving Residence in Red Wing. She was born July 30, 1922 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Roland and Eva (Graham) Hiles. She graduated from Mortlach High School and from Providence Hospital Nursing School in Moose Jaw. She obtained her RN degree in 1946. She continued her nursing education, specializing in obstetrics in Detroit, MI. She worked as a registered nurse at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing from 1947-1984. Most of those years were in the obstetric department and she finished her nursing career in Infection Control. She married Al Neufeldt on June 25, 1949 in Red Wing. He died January 21, 1992. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Circle, the Minnesota Nursing Association, and was a past Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, stamp collecting, knitting, quilting, genealogy and staying current with medical information. She was an avid Vikings and hockey fan.

Survivors include her three children: Roy (Norma) Neufeldt, Lois Marschall and Linda DeWeese, all of Red Wing; seven grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two sisters, Gladys Gerken of Lake City and Helen Ellis of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; one brother, Roy (Jean) Hiles of Moose Jaw. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Al.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association or Scleroderma Foundation.
