Dorothy Katherine Gladys Kohn

Dorothy Katherine Gladys Kohn, 87, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was born June 11, 1924 in Gilford Township, to Reno and Katherine (Stapel) Barghusen. She graduated in 1943 from Lake City High School and had worked at Red Wing Pottery as a painter. On June 6, 1944 she married Vernon Kohn at Lincoln Trinity Church in Oak Center. They farmed in Wabasha and Goodhue Counties, and in 1959 they purchased a farm in Vasa, where they lived until moving to Red Wing in 1990. Though busy with farm work, Dorothy's greatest talent was as a seamstress, having made numerous curtains throughout the years as an independent contractor for local businesses. Her love for crafts and needlework was evident in her Chrismons for the Christmas tree at Vasa Lutheran Church, where she was an active and dedicated member. She also enjoyed volunteering in other capacities, be it driving for those that needed rides to appointments or doing hair at the Seminary Home. Dorothy had also been a competitive bowler for many years and she also enjoyed her card clubs and was still active in her club in Zumbro Falls.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Vernon of Red Wing; five sons, Ken (Kathy) of Ham Lake, Dennis (Pat) of Hastings, Bruce (Mary) of St. Charles, Jerry (Rosie) and Richard (Joni) both of Red Wing; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roger Barghusen & Fritz Loth and sister, Willa Gruhlke.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Vasa Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristi Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Vasa Lutheran Church.
