Dorothy Jean "Red" Knudson, 79, Red Wing, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester. She was born November 1, 1931 in Red Wing, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Sparley) Erickson. She was a 1949 graduate of Red Wing High School and on March 29, 1952, she married Leonard Knudson in Red Wing. She worked at Red Wing Pottery for 5 years and then devoted many years to raising her five children. After that, she worked at Dayco for 25 years, retiring May 19, 1995. Leonard died December 19, 2000. She was a member of United Lutheran Church and the Redmen Club. She loved baking, reading, playing cards, puzzles, suduko, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
Survivors include five children, Debra (Dan) Book of Peterson, MN, Steve (Terri) Knudson of Rochester and Susan (Ronald) Wolter, Judy (Steven) Gibart and Lori (David) Pell, all of Red Wing; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dona Peterson of Golden Valley, MN; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Arline "Ricky" Everett; two brothers: William in infancy and Lee Erickson; and one grandson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p. m. Monday, April 4, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
