Dorothy E. Knoblauch

Dorothy Ellen Knoblauch, 89, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at her home. She was born December 19, 1922 in Luverne, Minnesota to Albert and Leona (Peters) Remme. When she was three years old, they moved to Cannon Falls, where she graduated from high school and the Normal Training Department. For two years she taught at rural schools in Dakota and Goodhue Counties. In 1944 she married Russell Knoblauch and they farmed near Cannon Falls for seven years and they then moved to the Welch area where they farmed and lived until they moved to Red Wing in 2009. For nine years she drove school bus and was a volunteer at Haven Homes for ten years. Nature--especially birds, gardening, quilting, cooking and puzzles were the things Dorothy enjoyed. As a member of Cross of Christ Church, she taught Sunday school, served on the church council and on WELCA, where she helped serve many funeral lunches.
Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra (Bob) Luhman of Welch, Leona Haupt of Red Wing and a son, James (Claudine) Knoblauch of Fridley; 7 grandchildren, Matthew & Eric Luhman, Jeremy Wright, Anthony & Nora Haupt & Clark & Claire Goebel; 6 great-grandchildren, Alex, Misty, Cory, Hannah, Tyler and Helena; a sister, Virginia Wille of Cannon Falls and a brother, Al Peter (Bonnie) Remme of Cannon Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell and her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Joy Bussert officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church, American Red Cross or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
