Dorothy Mae Kirkland, age 78, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at her home in Red Wing. She was born December 13, 1933 in Lake City, the daughter of George and Lillian (Geiger) Wiemann. She grew up and attended school in Wabasha. On January 22, 1955 she was united in marriage to Dean Kirkland at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha. The couple lived in Winona and then in Rochester before moving to Red Wing in 1969. After retirement they wintered in Mission, Texas for 11 years. Dorothy was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue. She enjoyed camping trips, gardening, working on her flower beds, cooking, canning, baking, crocheting, knitting and babysitting the neighborhood children. Dorothy especially enjoyed her family, as they were her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dean Kirkland of Red Wing; four children, Gregg (Kathy) Kirkland, Debra (Anthony) Iamunno, Michael Kirkland, and Betsy (Keith) Brown; four grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, Caitlin and Lauren; and one great-grandson, Logan. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jane Markey.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Goodhue with Reverend Gregory Hall officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
