Dorothy "Dottie" Viola Johnson, 76, of Welch, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at her home at DeerCrest. She was born April 24, 1940 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Andrew and Lorena Golden. She grew up in Oklahoma and met her husband, Freeman while he was stationed there during his time in the U.S. Army. They married on October 31, 1957 in Lawton, Oklahoma and took the train back to Prairie Island where they started their life together. They moved to Florida in 1972 and raised their three sons there. She was always active and had no trouble keeping up with her three sons. Dottie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent cook and took great pride in her gardens and enjoyed showing her sons how to garden. She was a sports fan and enjoyed attending a variety of different sporting events. Above all, Dottie was willing to do anything she could to help her family and friends and will be missed by many.
She is survived by three sons, Chet (Vikkie) Johnson of Palm Bay, Fla., Ron (Kathy) Johnson of Winter Haven, Fla., and Scott (Kelli) Johnson of Park Rapid, Minn.; 8 grandchildren, Rayann Blodgett, Hannah Johnson, Sheldon Anderson, Ashlyn Otto, Shania Johnson, Jarrett Johnson, Chayton Johnson, and Chase Johnson; five great-grandchildren; Cayman, Kyndra, Brentlee, Joseph and Reagen; brother Ray (Pam) Golden of Albertville, Minn. and sister, Jeanie Bennett of Dallas, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
Dottie has been reunited with the love her life, Freeman. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Jerry, Andy, Rory and David Golden; sister, Velma Paulson and her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home with Rev. Johnson Loud officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lucy Gelhar. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice or the Walk to End Alzheimer's (Alzgla.org).
