Dorothy "Dottie" Helen Carlson, 95, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. Dottie was born July 8, 1921 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Horace and Louada (Whiting) Brownell. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1940 and attended the Minnesota School of Business. She worked for Shell Oil Company in Minneapolis, U.S. Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla. during World War II followed by Atwood Coffee Company in Minneapolis. She married Harold "Hal" F. Carlson on November 28, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2004 after 58 years of marriage. Dottie was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in circle, WELCA and bible study. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children Catherine (Kevin) Siebold, Steven (Linda) Carlson, Nancy (Allen) Risberg, and Sue (Bill) Ferrin; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kristin Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Welch. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
