Dorothy Anna Edna Bonde, 80, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 8 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born May 26, 1927 in Lake City to Claus and Louise (Tombarge) Heins and attended school in rural Lake City. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Waldo Bonde in Frontenac. She worked at Berlin's Caf? in Frontenac and later at Red Wing Shoe Company, where she retired in 1989. Waldo died Sept 18, 1990. She volunteered for the Fairview Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary and was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac; a life member and past president of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed needlework and sewing and had made aprons for her co-workers at the RW Shoe Company as well as Christmas pins for the Legion. A Twins fan, she also enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the humming birds.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Bonde of Rochester and David (Carol) Bonde of Red Wing; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Heins of Red Wing and Robert Heins of South St. Paul and one sister, Shirley Perkins of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Waldo and one brother, Dallas Heins.
Funeral service will be 10 am Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontenac with Reverend Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to Fairview Red Wing Hospital Auxiliary, Fairview Red Wing Hospice or St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontenac.
