Dorothea "Dottie" Rilla Tomhave

January 13, 1922 — September 28, 2018

Dorothea "Dottie" Rilla Tomhave, 96, of Red Wing, went home to Jesus on Friday, September 28, 2018 at her home at Deercrest. She was born January 19, 1922 in Rock Elm, Wis. to Frederick and Edna (Lansing) Dodge. She attended rural schools in Bay City and Trimbell Township before graduating from Ellsworth High School. In May of 1940 she met the love of her life while at the roller rink. A year later, on May 26, 1941 she was united in marriage in Riverside, Calf. to Alfred W. Tomhave, who served in the U.S. Army. Dorothea and Alfred traveled to many locations during Al's time in the service and together, the couple raised three children. Dorothea was a loving wife for more than 72 years before Al's death on July 28, 2013. She attended and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she served in various positions. She enjoyed serving the church and along with Al, she made it a priority to be involved in each church the family attended throughout the years. She was an avid bowler and golfer and garnered many trophies and awards including a Hole-in-One. Dottie will be remembered as a true and faithful servant of God and as loving wife and mother, who always put her family ahead of herself.

She is survived by two sons, Richard (Jacquie) Tomhave of Bee Cave, Texas; Steven (Colonel USAF Retired) (Jetty Ann) of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Grosse of Wacouta; brother, Donald "Red" Dodge of Rapid City and son-in-law, the Honorable Bill Wilson, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by husband, Alfred; daughter, Roxanne; brothers, Richard, Mike, Nello and Burtton Dodge; sisters, Grace and Alberta and her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend Tyge Zucker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
