Doris Mae Sorensen

Doris Mae Sorensen, 74, of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Stillwater, Minnesota. She was born July 10, 1937 in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Ervin and Loretta (Ledebuhr) Zielkie and grew up on the family dairy farm in Bay City, Wisconsin. She was a 1954 graduate of Ellsworth High School and a 1955 graduate of the Minnesota School of Beauty. Her first marriage was blessed with two children, Vicki and Kevin Lieffring. She later married Norman Sorensen on Oct. 5, 1968 at Hartland Methodist Church and they had two children, Christen and Melissa Sorensen. She enrolled in the nursing program at the Vocational College in Red Wing and became an LPN in 1991. She had worked at the Ellsworth Care Center, the IRC in Red Wing and at Treasure Island from 2000-2010. In addition to working, she also helped her husband with the farm, and especially enjoyed working in the garden, flowers and anything that got her fingers in the dirt. Doris loved spending time with her family and going on family outings, as well as dancing and window shopping/ "just browsing".

She is survived by her husband, Norman Sorensen of Maiden Rock, Wis.; 4 children, Vicki (Rich) Keane of Ellsworth, Wis., Kevin (Debbie) Lieffring of Mazeppa, Chris (Tammy) Sorensen of Amery, Wis. and Melissa (Chad) Sears of Ellsworth, Wis.; 9 grandchildren; 3 siblings, Darlene (Allen) Ecker of Hudson, Wis., Raymond (Lois) Zielkie of Bay City, Wis. and Delores (William) Mathis of Alma, Wis. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Mary Eide officiating. Spring burial will be at Maiden Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service.
