Doris R. French age 87 of Zumbrota passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, St. Marys Campus. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Paul in Zumbrota with Father Robert Altier and Deacon Paul Tschann co-celebrating the mass. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Doris Regina Schiller was born on March 25, 1928 in Crane Township, Stearns County, MN to Thomas R. and Elizabeth (nee Muyres) Schiller. Doris grew up in rural Upsala. On August 19, 1950 she married William T. French in Upsala. They made their home in Zumbrota. William died on February 26, 1989. Doris taught for 30 plus years as a grade school teacher at Zumbrota Elementary, retiring in 1991. Doris was an active member of the Church of St. Paul, giving people rides to church and appointments. She volunteered with Mrs. Kruse's class at Zumbrota-Mazeppa Elementary School, played bridge weekly and traveled the United States and foreign countries. Doris loved to feed and watch the birds. She was also a member of the Doris Club.
Doris is survived by her children, Lisa (Scott) French-Austin of Mahtomedi, MN and Lew (Claudia Macedo) French of Martha's Vineyard, MA; grandchildren, Asa French, Carrie Austin, Truman French and Bill Austin and sister, Mildred Van Heel of West St. Paul, MN.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, William, sister, Virginia Harren and special friend, Bill Hann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.
