Doris Mae Archer, age 81, of Pine Island died on Sunday January 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with the Reverend Carolyn Westlake officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday January 5 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery.

Doris Mae Andrist was born on January 4, 1929 in Milton Township to Fritz and Naomi (Weidendorf) Andrist. She grew up in Milton Township on the family farm; the family later moved Pine Island where she attended and graduated from Pine Island High School. After high school she held various positions, including being a switch board operator and operating a small cafÃ�'© in Chester, MN. On April 9, 1957 Doris married Richard Glen Archer. The couple later divorced. To this union were born two sons, Wesley and Steve Archer. Doris was a stay at home mother and was a Den Mother for her sons' Boy Scout groups. She began working as a realtor, which she continued for 15 years. She had continuous high sales and was a sales leader for Century 21 Realty in Rochester. She later worked for Circus World Bingo in Rochester up until she was 81 and her health began to decline.

Doris enjoyed attending her morning coffee group, shopping at the dollar store, listening to country music and attending concerts. She also enjoyed line dancing and square dancing, attending local festivals and arts and crafts shows. She always looked forward to her drives with her sister, Betty to Red Wing and spending time with family and friends. She volunteered at Pine Haven Care Center, United Methodist Church in Pine Island and was a member of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary in Pine Island.

Doris is survived by her two sons, Wesley (Ann Doring) of Rochester and Steve (Karen) of Pine Island; five grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas, Glen, Jena, and Richard Archer; one great grandchild, Keeghan; sister, Betty Andrist of Pine Island; and brother, Maurice Andrist of Pine Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Robert Andrist.
