Doreen A. Sherman

Doreen A. Sherman, age 82, of Wanamingo died on Saturday morning, September 22, 2012 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. A family graveside service was held at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating.
Doreen Agnes Peterson was born on January 15, 1930 in Rochester, MN to Harry and Signe (nee Schedin) Peterson. As a young child her family moved to Mankato. Doreen grew up in Mankato and graduated from Mankato High School in 1948. On August 31, 1948 she married Russell E. Sherman in Esterville, IA. Russell worked as a Depot Agent for the railroad and they lived in Minneapolis, Mankato, Hope, Lime Springs, IA, Rose Creek before moving to Wanamingo in 1968. Doreen worked as a bookkeeper for Cenex for twenty years, retiring in 1989. Doreen and Russell enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spent many winters in the South. Doreen loved cooking, gardening and canning, singing and spending time with family and grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo. Doreen is survived by her husband, Russell; sons, Russell (Martha) Sherman Jr. of Apple Valley, Thomas (Cindy) Sherman of Cannon Falls and Rick (Connie) Sherman of Rochester; daughter, Jean (Jerry) Blakstad of Inver Grove Heights; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Geri Golding and Louise Murphy and brother, Howard Peterson. Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Signe and two brothers, Donald and Robert Peterson.
