Dora J. Stoddard

God called Dora J. (Sohn) Stoddard home to celebrate Christmas with Jesus on Sunday, December 22, 2013. She was the fifth of six children and was born on May 14, 1914, at her family home in Zumbrota, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Friegaard) Sohn. Dora graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1932. On June 4, 1940, she married Merle Stoddard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She worked for both Frank and Conway Marvin at the Zumbrota Telephone Company for over 35 years as a telephone operator. She was a lifelong member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Dora was known for her kind and caring heart, and had a gentle smile. She will be greatly missed.
Dora is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Ofstie of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Matthew Ofstie of Shakopee, Mark Ofstie of Zumbrota; Mali (Seth) Nareff of Eagan, Eileen (Andres) Bader of Arrow Bank, OK; great-grandchildren, Dillon and Madison Ofstie, Sawyer and Eleanor Nareff, Jacob and Elizabeth Bader; daughter-in-law, Susanne Stoddard of St. Louis, MO; cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends especially her care giver Tracey Sharp who cared for Dora over the last three years.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband Merle, who died on May 7, 1994; son, Steven, who died on August 16, 2007; daughter-in-law, Ellen Stoddard who died in May of 2003; brothers, Olaf and Adolph Sohn; sisters, Ethel Johnston, Margaret Sigmound, Evelyn Sherman; and son-in-law, Jon Ofstie who died on March 22, 2011.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at United Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Vikstrom officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Zumbrota Cemetery. If so desired memorials may be directed to United Redeemer Lutheran Church or Season's Hospice, 1696 Greenview Drive SW, Rochester, MN, 55902.
