Donna Mae Hovland was born April 9, 1958 in Moorhead, MN, the daughter of Morris and Lillian (Julsrud) Axness. She grew up in the Barnesville/Rothsay area. She met Michael Hovland in Moorhead and they were married on May 2, 1981 at North Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. They lived in Moorhead before moving to Red Wing in 1991. She took a job with the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a medical secretary. She was a member of United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed baking and was very involved in her children's activities. She died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at her home following a 16 year battle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband, Mike of Red Wing; three children: Kayla (Nate) Anderson of Grand Junction, CO, Jason Hovland of New York, NY and Brian Hovland of Red Wing; her mother, Lillian Axness of Rothsay; two sisters, Beverly Mahmood and Diane Hoag, both of Rothsay; one brother, Mark Axness of Barnesville, MN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
