Donna Mae Harms, 83, of Red Wing, formerly of Harmony, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Deer Crest. She was born August 8, 1932, in Spring Grove, Minn. to Everett and Barbara (Myhre) Burtness. She grew up on a farm outside of Harmony in Henrytown. She graduated from Mabel-Canton Schools and continued on to Winona State where she earned a teaching degree. She went on to teach at Harmony Elementary for 22 years. On July 18, 1953 she married Edward Harms. She took time off to raise her family but returned to teach fourth grade for a number of years. She retired from teaching to help Ed as the secretary for his insurance company until 1990 when he retired. Together they traveled many places including Yuma, Arizona where they wintered. Donna belonged to the Women's Circle at Greenfield Lutheran in Harmony where she was a member for many years. She was also a member of United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking and loved having parties and entertaining.
Donna is survived by her husband, Edward of Red Wing; daughter, Gretchen (David) Anderson of Red Wing; two sons, Greg Harms of Brainerd and Steve (Sheri) Harms of Gilbert; five grandchildren, Nick, Brooke and Sami Harms and Ingrid and Kristen Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Helen Harms of Onalaska, Wis. and Arlene Harms of Isle.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony, Minn. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Greenfield Lutheran or the Alzheimer's Association.
