Donald K. ?Don? Windhorst age 87 of Zumbrota died on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 11:30 A.M. at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Rev. Tom Isaacson officiating. Inurnment will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Donald Kenneth Windhorst was born on February 3, 1919 in Minneola Township, Goodhue Co., MN to John D. and Verona E. (nee Kalass) Windhorst. Don grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1937. He started farming with his father. Don farmed his entire life in the Zumbrota area. On October 5, 1946 he married Jean Benrud at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They divorced in 1983. On July 27, 1985 he married Mary Windhorst on his family farm. Mary died on October 10, 1986. Don married Arlene Hanek on July 14, 1989 in Isanti, MN. They lived on the family farm until 2002 when they moved into Zumbrota. Don was a former board member of both the Farmers Butter ? Cheese Co-op and the United Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Zumbrota Lions Club. Don was currently a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church and the 65-50 Club in Zumbrota. Don enjoyed hunting and all sports, feeding the birds and listening to old-time country western music. He especially enjoyed dancing waltzes and polkas. Don is survived by his wife Arlene of Zumbrota, two daughters, Adene Windhorst of Campbell, CA, and Elonn (Dr. Tom MD) Harman of Rochester, one son, Dale (Mary) Windhorst of Osseo, WI, Step-children, Mark (Beth) Windhorst of Wanamingo, Scott Windhorst of Zumbrota, Gwen Bosshart of Isle, MN, Gordon (Janice) Hanek of Winston, OR, Ron (Lindy) Hanek of Rogers, MN, Karen (Jim) Porath of Shoreview, MN and Deanna (Nur) Abdeen of Sterling, VA, two grandsons Cole and Shaun Windhorst of Osseo, WI, many step-grandchildren and one sister, Maryldine (Lindeman) Stoltzman of Woodbury, MN. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary. Honorary bearers are Dean Flinneman, Bruce Flinneman, Chris Kalass, Paul Kalass, Bob Thomforde, Percy Thompson, Gordon Hanek Ron Hanek, and Jim Porath. The family suggests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Association or United Redeemer Lutheran Church.
