Donald F. Watson, 97, of Lake City passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Lake City Care Center. He was born to Earl and Emma (Bartels) Watson on August 9, 1919 in Lake City.
Donald attended church school at Belvidere through eighth grade. As the oldest son he had to quit school to take care of the family when his father became seriously ill.
On June 3, 1945, Donald married Myrle J. Walters at St. Peter's Church in Belvidere, MN. Don and Myrle had two children; daughter, Linda Watson Ahlers and son, Larry Watson.
Don worked for an uncle for several years and was paid with five milk cows. He started farming on a rented farm. Later he bought a farm in Lake Township, and after a few years sold that and purchased another farm two miles away. He raised Hereford cattle, hogs and chickens. He also had dairy cattle. Don farmed until June 1972 when he sold the farm. They moved to Lake City where they lived in two houses Don built; one in 1973 and one in 1978.
Don worked as a carpenter in Rochester for many years both building new homes and doing remodeling projects. He was a great craftsman and highly sought after when he retired. He actively did carpentry work until 2010.
Don was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. He served on various boards and committees. Don and Myrle were wonderful dancers. They enjoyed dancing very much to old time, square dance and big band.
Don is survived by his daughter, Linda (Charlie Holter) Ahlers, of Lake City; son, Larry (Audrey) Watson, of Lake City; grandson, Billy Watson, of Lake City; one brother, Meryl Watson, of Lake City; and one sister, Arlaine Bleything, of Springfield, Ohio.
