Donald C. Tyler

July 26, 1927 — June 9, 2015

Donald Clarence Tyler, 87, of Bloomington, formerly of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at his home. He was born July 26, 1927 in Red Wing to Willard and Clara Tyler. He grew up and attended school near Burnside. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served six months during WWII. Later, Don returned to the Army where he served during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he moved to California where he was a sheet metal worker in the ship yards. He was a 40 year member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local # 8 and Sheet Metal Workers Local #10. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Red Wing. He was a man who loved spending time with his family, he had 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He enjoyed taking photos and making home movies of the family he loved so much.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Sandie Tyler of Highland Park; four cousins, Bob Suskovic of Red Wing, Dick Suskovic of Austin, Meredith "Joe" Severson of Red Wing and Ivalee Wanner of Edina; good friend, Lyle Ross of Hager City; 18 nieces and nephews, Leigh Ann (Francis) Kerr of St. Paul, John (Carmen) Tyler of Chicago, Jerry (Laurie) Tyler of Red Wing, James Tyler of St. Paul, Jeff (Sue) Tyler of Red Wing, Richard Discher of Minnesota, Debra (Richard) Smith of White Bear Lake, Michael (Linda) Discher of Zimmerman, Sharon (Alan) Haggenmiller of Mora, Victoria Edwardson of Bloomington, Roxanne (Greg) Anderson of Barnun, Sandra Garbers of Maplewood, Bruce (Ann) Discher of Hugo, Erin (Kurt) Robak of Browerville, Wynee (Shaun) O'Neil of Oakdale, Lynn (Zuhair) Abubya of Shoreview, Leanna (Mark) O'Gara of St. Paul and David (Tina) Tyler of West St. Paul.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings, John Tyler, Eileen Discher and Byron Tyler.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery with military honors provided by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion, Post # 54. A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church.
