Donald A. Tri age 79 of Mazeppa died on Sunday morning, February 14, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa with Father Robert Meyer and Father Joseph LaPlante co-officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Donald Ambrose Tri was born on October 27, 1930 in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, MN to Frank and Anna (nee Stifter) Tri. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Don worked as a farm hand and laborer at various jobs around the Mazeppa area. On January 30, 1951 he entered the United States Marine Corp. He served in Korea and after his honorable discharge on January 15, 1954 he returned to Mazeppa. Don worked as a butcher/meat cutter for Ore Oelkers Food Store and later for Al Amy in Mazeppa. On May 10, 1969 he married Margaret M. Reiland at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa. They made their home in Rochester for five years before moving to Mazeppa in 1975. Don worked as a meat cutter for Erdmanns in Rochester for a short time and as a meat cutter for Barlows for twenty eight years, HyVee Barlows for thirteen years, retiring in August of 2009. Don was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mazeppa Volunteer Fire Department for many years, American Legion Post #588 in Mazeppa for over fifty years and a lifetime member of VFW Post # 1215 in Rochester. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, yardwork, feeding the birds and squirrels.
Don is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Anne (Paul) Swenson of Rochester and Teresa (Rich) Sylak of Mazeppa; two grandchildren, R J Sylak and Lukas Swenson; two brothers, Harvey (Margaret) Tri of Zumbrota and Thomas Tri of Anamosa, IA; one sister, Margaret Dolloff of Butte, MT; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna; two brothers, John and Walter and two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Catherine Jacobson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mazeppa Fire Department, Mazeppa First Responders or Seasons Hospice. Casketbearers are Jeff Tri, Ted Olson, Martin Meerkins, Larry Liffrig, Craig Richter and Bob Reiland.
