Donald Elroy Sundberg, 84, of Red Wing, and formerly of Austin, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Fairview Red Wing Seminary Home. He was born November 11, 1922 in Red Wing to Elroy and Verna (Adler) Sundberg and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1940. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College before enlisting in the US Navy on August 27, 1942. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1945. In 943 he married Marrian Naseth in Red Wing and they later divorced. On October 21, 1974, he married Esther Flatter. For 60 years, he lived in Austin, Minnesota, where he first worked for Hormel for several years and later for the USDA as a meat inspector, retiring in 1987. Esther died in 2000. He came to Red Wing again in 2003 to spend his final years at the Seminary Home. In Austin, he was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, having received its highest honor as Pilgrim; as well as a member of the Eagles, Elks, VFW and St. Olaf Lutheran Church. In Red Wing, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In the past he had enjoyed golfing and bowling, and doing crossword puzzles.

He is survived by 2 sons, Bruce (Eileen) of St. Paul and Michael (Nancy) of Milwaukee; 2 step-daughters, Joyce McKee of Lyle, Minn and Patricia (Warren) Bradford of Austin, Minn; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruth (Bob) Peterson of Folsom, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther and a brother, John Sundberg.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with military honors. Lunch to follow at Bruce and Eileen Sundberg's home, St. Paul. Memorials preferred to the Fairview Seminary Home Patient Activities fund. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
