Red Wing formerly of Hager City, WI

Donald Allen Stogdill, 82, of Red Wing and formerly of Bay City, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on November 10, 1941, in Red Wing, to Harold and Ruth (Wood) Stogdill.  He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1960 and then from Sterling College in Sterling, KS in 1964, receiving his bachelor of science degree.  He then enlisted in the US Navy, serving from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.  On August 27, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patricia Harris at the Hager Presbyterian Church in Hager City. They were blessed with three children, Stephanie, Michelle and Timothy.  For one year he taught math in Colfax, WI and then went on to work for UNIVAC in St. Paul as a computer programmer.  Residing on a farm in Bay City he decided to get into dairy farming and milked cows for 25 years.  In 1998, they had an auction and sold the cows and he went to work for Dayco in Red Wing until retiring.  He attended Bethel Covenant Church and he was a member of the Harding-Hall-Darrington American Legion Post #357 in Bay City, serving on the military honor squad.   Don enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was farming, working in his garden or hiking.   He liked to tinker and fix things.   You could find him many times reading, taking interest in many different things.  Most of all, his faith and family were the utmost important part of his life.  

Don is survived by his loving wife, Pat of 57 years; three children, Stephanie (Ken) Sumner, Michelle (Kelly) Hurlbut and Timothy Stogdill; three grandchildren, Colin Sumner, Hailey Hurlbut and Lily Stogdill; one brother, Burton Stogdill and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Harlan and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Stogdill.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Bethel Covenant Church of rural Ellsworth with Pastor Joel Osterlund officiating.  Burial with full military honors will be at the Trenton Cemetery.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Mayo Hospice or Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org) Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
