Donald Clarence Steffenhagen, age 89, of Frontenac died Thursday at the Lake City Medical Center. He was born July 3, 1919 in Lake City, the son of William and Caroline (Kohn) Steffenhagen. Donald attended Lake City Schools before beginning to farm with his father in Frontenac, taking over the farming operation in 1950 until his retirement in 1981and moving to New Frontenac. Donald was united in marriage to Donna Mae Dankers on March 13, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for 21 years, member of the Church Council for many years, and the Fellowship Club. Donald enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his lawn, reading and listening to music.
Donald is survived by his wife, Donna of Frontenac; children Gary (Rita) Steffenhagen of Eau Claire, WI, Diane (Tom) Olesky of Glendale, AZ, James (Denise) Steffenhagen of Frontenac, Gloria (Paul) Otto of Frontenac, and Dean Steffenhagen of Ellenton, FL; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Emery, and his granddaughter Angela Otto.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, MN with the Rev. Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Pallbearers will be Nathan Steffenhagen, Aaron Steffenhagen, Seth Steffenhagen, Joseph Otto, Andrew Olesky, and Matthew Mears. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jennifer Mears, Kari Steffenhagen, Heidi Steffenhagen, Amber Steffenhagen, Nathan Bluhm, and Daniel Cox. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson Peterson Chapel, Lake City and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
