Donald Earl Oftedahl, 84, of Red Wing died Friday at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born on July 19, 1921 in Princeton, Minnesota to Fred and Mabel (Tyler) Oftedahl. He attended schools in Princeton and Red Wing and then served in the US Army during World War II. He worked a number of years on the farm and also at S. B. Foot Tannery. On January 24, 1947 he married Charlotte Opem Barghusen. For many years he worked construction, helping build the Associated Bank, Red Wing Central High School and the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant. He retired in 1973. Charlotte died on June 10, 1999. He enjoyed going for rides, fishing, garage sales and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two children, Nancy (James) Kells and Janet Veith all of Red Wing; one step-daughter, Elaine Bartz of Red Wing; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernyce Lefler of Anoka and Maxyne Alderink of Milaca and one brother, Charlie ( Lois) Oftedahl of Crosby. He was preceded in death by his wife, one granddaughter, Shelly Bartz, an infant son, one sister, Alta Lefebvre and one brother Morris Oftedahl. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Father Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dale and David Kells, Dean Vieths and Steven Bartz. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Monday.
