ROCHESTER - Donald L. "Don" Moore, 86, of Rochester, died Saturday (Mar. 26, 2011) at his home.
Donald Lee Moore was born Apr. 27, 1924, in Sutton, Nebraska to Robert and Charlotte (Stroh) Moore. He was raised in Friend, Nebraska where he graduated from high school. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force in March of 1943 and served as a bombardier on a B-24 in the European Theater. He was discharged in October of 1945 having achieved the rank of 2nd. Lieutenant. On Nov. 11, 1945 he married Grace Kalal in Crete, Nebraska. The couple moved to Chicago, IL where Don attended Radio school for two years and started his career with IBM. The couple moved to Madison, WI where Don served as a Customer Engineer for IBM for twenty years. They moved to Rochester in 1968 where he was a Service Engineer for IBM, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church. Don enjoyed traveling, genealogy, and woodworking. Don and Grace were married for sixty five years.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Debra (Gordon) Chubbuck of Bovey, MN; his son, Donald (Cindy) Moore, Jr. of Madison, WI; his sister, Dorothea Buehler of Spokane, WA; his brother, John (Edna) Moore of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Brent (Amy) Moore, Brandon (Courtney) Moore, Eric (Tammy) Dublin, and Jennifer (Bryan) Ricafort, and great grandchildren, Zoe, and Samuel Moore, Haeleigh Morris, and Kayleigh and Nicholas Ricafort. Four brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel with Rev. Bill Hoffmann of Community Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood East Cemetery in Rochester. Military Honors will be provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral service.
