Donald Max "Pete" Peterson, 75, of Red Wing, died Thursday, October 20, 2011, at his residence as a result of a house fire. He was born January 20, 1936, in El Paso, Wisconsin, the son of Earnest and Beatrice (Hase) Peterson. Pete grew up in El Paso and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served from February, 1957 through February, 1963. He married Jeanette Tveten in May, 1966, in Rushford, Minnesota. He worked as an over the road truck driver for 23 years before co-owning the Bar & Wheel Tavern in Red Wing for 18 years. He was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54, the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post # 1218, and the Red Man Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, his dog, and fixing lawnmowers in his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; three sons: Eric (Virginia Larson) of Bay City, Timothy (Jereme Parks), of Red Wing and Jonathan Deden (Chelsi) of Mondovi, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Dylan, Ashlee, Samantha, Abigail, Cadyn and Cloey; two sisters: Marilyn (Earnest) Gay and Ardith (Paul) Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Lance Peterson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
