Donald Dean Larson

Donald Dean "Don" Larson, 85, of Red Wing died Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (formerly Red Wing Health Center). He was born October 19, 1933 in Vasa, Minnesota to Milton and Mildred (Lorenson) Larson. He attended country school in Goodhue County. He served in the U.S. Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. On May 24, 1958 he married Algene Lips at Nerstrand, Minnesota. Don was an over the road trucker and he worked for Monson and Knudsen Trucking, retiring at the age of 69. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Amvets, the All Veterans Color Guard and the
Hudson Car Club.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Algene; two children, John (Stacy) Larson of Erie, Colorado and Lance (Pai) Larson of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Mariel Bock, Vanessa Newberg, Weston Armstrong, Alec and Brandon Larson; four great-granddaughters, Ariana, Nevaeh, Joslyn Bock and Jaida Bradshaw and one due in July; one sister, Maxine (Leo) Ryan of Goodhue and one brother, Roger (Lori) Larson of the Twin Cities and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Armstrong in 2002; his parents; two brothers; one sister and a special friend of Don and Algene, Rose Peterson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Clay Oglesbee officiating. Burial will be at the Burnside Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the First United Methodist Church or the Dementia Society of America. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
