Donald Harley Krause

Donald Harley Krause, 98, of Pine Island, passed into heaven on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Evergreen Place in Pine Island. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour preceding the funeral. We are requesting that all who plan to attend the funeral to please wear a mask.

Donald was born in Roscoe Township on April 26, 1923 to Harley J. and Emma (Wobig) Krause. He attended rural school in Pine Island. He married the love of his life, Mildred Hassler, on August 24, 1946 in Pine Island. They had 66 years together and were blessed with two children, Harley and Lori.

Donald owned a small farm in the Pine Island area and spent his life as a dairy farmer. After retiring from farming, he and Mildred took several bus trips all across the country. For many years, they owned a cabin in northern Minnesota where he loved spending hours on the lake with a fish pole in his hand.

Donald was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island was currently a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. He loved reading and could fix almost anything. He was well-known in the area for reciting poems-ones memorized from country school or those he was still actively learning. No medical appointment, family or social gathering was complete without one of his recitations.

Donald is survived by his son, Harley (Diane); his daughter, Lori (Daryl) Jessen; seven grandchildren, Sarah Krause, Heather Krause, Luke Jessen, Joshua Jessen, Magdalena Jessen, Micah Jessen, and Bethany Grace Jessen; five great-grandchildren, Brock Jessen, Brynn Jessen, Blair Jessen, Hunter Jessen, and Collins Jessen; and his sister, Della Mae Flemke.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mildred.

Memorials in his name may be given to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
