Donald Walter Kopecky

The memorial service for Donald Kopecky will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday July 13th at Oasis Church, 1815 38th St. NW, in Rochester. Inurnment of the cremated remains will be at the Albin, Wyoming Cemetery.

Mr. Kopecky, 83, of Rochester, Minnesota went to be with the Lord on Wednesday July 9, 2008 at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.

Donald Walter Kopecky was born to Eugene V. and Mattie (Adams) Kopecky in Gonzales, Texas on April 2, 1925. He attended school there and was later graduated from high school in Flatonia, Texas. He served with the Navy, stateside, and in New Guinea, during World War II. After completing his military service, he received a B.A. degree from Rockmont College in Denver, where he met his wife, Elaine Anderson. They married on June 7, 1948. Mr. Kopecky also received his Master's degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He taught Biblical Languages and Exposition for 15 years at Rockmont College in Longmont, and taught the summer Greek course at the Conservative Baptist Seminary in Denver. He worked as Adverstising Systems Manager for the Longmont Times-Call in Longmont for 27 years. He was a consultant on the NIV translation of the book of James for the New York Bible Society in 1969. He had a gift of teaching and taught Sunday School and other classes for many years. He especially enjoyed studying and excelled in both the Hebrew and Greek biblical languages. In 1992, after retirement, he moved to Rochester, Minnesota to be near family and lived there until his death.

Mr. Kopecky was involved in the establishing of a Calvary Church on Gay Street in Longmont during his 37 year membership there. Since 1992, he was a member of Oasis Church in Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. In addition to his wife, Elaine, he is survived by a daughter, Donna (Donald) Elliott of Rochester, 2 grandchildren, a sister, Ruth (Spurgeon) Dunnam of Longview, Texas, 2 brothers, Bill (Muriel) Kopecky of Tucson, Arizona, and Lamar (Beth) Kopecky of San Angelo, Texas.
