Donald Clarence Klein, 91, of Lake City, died Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Lake City Hospital. He was born July 2, 1932, in Red Wing, to Clarence and Emma (Stemman) Klein. He was baptized on July 24, 1932 and confirmed on May 25, 1947, both at St. Peter’s Belvidere Lutheran Church. Donald also attended country school at St. Peter’s Belvidere and received his 8th grade diploma in 1947. He worked at neighboring farms until he enlisted in the US Army in 1953, serving until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He was united in marriage to Delaine Miller on April 27, 1957. Donald rented a farm until 1961 when he and Delaine bought their farm in rural Lake City, where Donald worked well into his 80’s. He greatly enjoyed being a farmer, he loved his cattle and dairy cows as well as his Farmall and International Tractors. He had been a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church until moving to Lake City when he became a member of St. John’s. He was a 53-year member of the American Legion Post 110, past member of the Oak Center Creamy Board and the Wabasha County DHIA Board. When he wasn’t farming, Don enjoyed listening to old time music and watching the MN Vikings.
He is survived by his 3 children, Dean (Lois) Klein of Lake City, Dawn Clevenger of Denver, CO and Darlis Peters of Lake City; 8 grandchildren, Jamie (Phil) Schroeder, Melissa (John) Eron, Eric (Chassidy) Klein, Nicole (Jeremy)Schafer, Dayton Clevenger, Wayne (Josie) Peters, Sharon (Jessie) Carlson and Kayla Peters; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Delaine Hinck and Angie Dicke both of Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Delaine on June 23, 2022 and a son-in-law.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Nathan Cordes officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 31 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson Peterson Chapel, Lake City and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
