Donald Wayne Kizer

Donald Wayne Kizer, 71, of Red Wing, died Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 7, 1943 to Helmer and Sylvia (Rothbarth) Kizer. Don grew up and attended school in Red Wing, graduating from Red Wing High School in 1961. While in high school he worked at Comstock's Nursery. He then moved on to Josten's where he printed diplomas until his retirement in 1999. He kept busy during his retirement by doing maintenance work on the Cannon Valley Trail. On October 29, 1971 he married Jill Diane Parsons in Red Wing. The couple made their home in Red Wing until Jill's death in 1995. Don married Judy Totushek, his high school sweetheart, on September 28, 2008 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Don had a number of hobbies and was even a professional bowler in high school. He loved to bike and was a woodworker and a fisherman. He still holds the state record for the largest sauger caught. He enjoyed watching sports and was a devoted Packer fan.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Jeff (Leigh) Kizer of Cannon Falls; daughter, Jennifer (Sam) Tift of Red Wing; step daughter, Maria (Drummond) Hines-Brigham of New York, NY; step son, Gregory (Sheila) Nelson of Clinton, NJ; 13 grandchildren, Samantha, Kyle and Robbie Kizer, Jillian and Jackson Brigham, Ellen and Nora Tift, Conor, Catrina, Fay, Ryan, John and Alicia Nelson; one great grandson, Jack Annis; daughter-in-law, Lynda Kizer of Yucca Valley, CA; two brothers, Dick (Bea) Kizer of Red Wing and Jerry (Sue) Kizer of Red Wing; two sisters, Sharon Goodwin of WA and Linda (Paul) Flynn of Balsam Lake, WI.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Jill; one son, Ritchie Kizer; and his parents.
Memorial service will be 5 p.m., Friday, August 21 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel with Rev. Lynne Rigg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and dinner will follow the service. A private family burial at Burnside Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
