Donald Edwin Huber, 85, of Red Wing, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at his home at Deer Crest. He was born on August 28, 1926 in Ellsworth, Wisconsin the 3rd of five sons of Clarence and Stella (Schmidt) Huber. He grew up in the Ellsworth area and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He enlisted in the US Army on April 16, 1951 and was stationed in Texas and Germany during the Korean Conflict. On May 17, 1952 he married Gertrude (Trudy) Pittings in Minneapolis. Following his discharge, they resided and farmed in Hartland Township, Pierce County, Wis. from 1954 to 1982. He also worked for many years as a rural mail carrier on Route 3 out of Ellsworth. He served on the board for the Farmers Union Cooperative and Hartland Township. In 1989 they moved to Red Wing. Trudy died on March 2, 2011. He was a past member of First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth and currently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 in Red Wing. He enjoyed farming, traveling, playing cards, and golfing. He was a Packers fan and enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his kindness. He always had something nice to say about everyone he met.

Survivors include his three children; Paul Huber of Ellsworth, Ann (Terry) Young of Ellsworth and Jane (Ed) McNamara of Goodhue; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Chris) Melius, Lucas Young, Megan McNamara, Abbey McNamara, Katherine Huber, Molly McNamara, Elizabeth Huber and Samuel McNamara; two brothers, Arley Huber of Red Wing and David (Phyllis) Huber of St. Paul and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and two brothers, Vincent and Leland.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Rev. Gary Elg officiating. Burial with military honors by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth, Wis. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church, Red Wing.
