Donald Marshall Haller died of heart failure at Salem, Hospital in Salem, Oregon on June 14, 2010. The son of Adolph and Della (née Rhoney) Haller, he was born on February 20, 1913 in Mazeppa, Minnesota. He moved with his family, first in 1914 to Arnegard, North Dakota, then in 1922 to his parents' home town of Red Wing, Minnesota. He was educated in public schools there, graduating from Red Wing High School in 1931.

For some years during the 1920's, he lived in Minnesota at the Vasa Children's Home at Vasa and later at Burnside, near Red Wing.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington and in the OSS in Italy.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1946, where he was employed as an electrical inspector for Douglas Aircraft. He worked in the defense industry for 30 years, retiring in 1976.

While in the L.A. area, he lived in Santa Monica from 1946 to 1955 and in Manhattan Beach from 1955 to 2005. He lived in Salem, Oregon at the Orchard Heights Senior Community from 2005 to 2010.

He is survived by one brother, Deane Haller of Red Wing, Minnesota; two nephews, Terry Haller of Madison, Wisconsin and Michael Haller of Salem, Oregon and one grandnephew, Christopher Haller of Salem, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adolph Haller in 1940, his stepfather Fred Gerdes in 1964, his mother Della Gerdes in 1972, his brother Lyndon Haller (wife Lela) in 1999 and his brother Forrest Haller (wife Topsy) in 2008.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at Oakwood Cemetery with Reverend David Jore officiating
