Donald C. Cunderla

Donald C. Cunderla, 86, of Read's Landing passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha. He was born June 1, 1928 to Joseph and Mary Cunderla in Rochester. He attended Rochester Public schools and graduated from Rochester High School in 1946. After graduating he enlisted in the Armed Forces and was in the Army 18 months, serving in Japan. After his honorable discharge he attended Rochester Junior College for two years. In 1951 he started working for NW Bell Telephone. He worked there for 32 years as a lineman, installer and cable man. He retired in 1983. For 40 years he also restored and rebuilt player pianos and organs. In 1952 he married Janean Decker. They continued to live in Rochester and were married for 62 years.
He is survived by his wife, Janean; two daughters, Donna (Tom) Born of Rochester and Diane (Randy) Bierbaum of Minnetrista, Minn.; one son, Brent (Vickie) Cunderla of Wenatchee, Wash.; one grandson, Tristan Cunderla of Wenatchee, Wash.; and one brother, Joe (Peggy) Cunderla of Rochester.
He is preceded in death by his parents who emigrated from Czechoslovakia; one sister, Helen Haberbush and one infant brother who died at birth.
A private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
