Donald Stanley Badger

ROCHESTER - Donald S. Badger, age 88, of Rochester, died Saturday Mar. 5, 2016 at GoldenLiving Center - Rochester West.
Donald Stanley Badger was born May 31, 1927 to Donald N. and Lillian (Larson) Badger in Spring Valley, MN. He moved to Rochester in his first year of life and attended Rochester High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during high school and served in the occupation of France and Germany with the Military Police. After his discharge he returned to Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1947. On May 14, 1949 he married Dolores Backstrom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua Iowa. Don worked for Marigold Foods (now Kemps) in ice cream production for 45 years, retiring in 1992.
Don was an active community volunteer for many organizations including, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Rochester Youth Baseball Association as a coach, Boy Scouts of America as a scout leader for Troops #82 and #120, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, he also worked on many homes for Habitat for Humanity. Don was a lifetime member of Zumbro Lutheran Church where he served on numerous committees, and was an usher and greeter.
He joined the Rochester Host Lions Club on Feb. 1, 1976 and had just received a Chevron for 40 years as a member. He served in many leadership roles including President, and served as District Governor of District 5 M1 Lions in 1994-1995. He received many awards and acknowledgements for his service in Lions. Don enjoyed his grandchildren, camping, and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife Dolores, three sons, Mark (Mary Ann) of Bentonville, AR, Ross of Rochester, and Craig (Marina) of Guatemala, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and his sister, DeAnna (Virgil) Nelson of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Rev. Vern Christopherson officiating. Inurnment will be in the church Columbarium. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Wm. T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion.
