Donald Alfred Anderson, 80, of Welch, died unexpectedly, on Monday, September 22, 2014, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1933, in Goodhue, to Alfred and Cora Betty (Schaffer) Anderson and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Joyce Gielow on Oct. 24, 1952 and they lived in Red Wing. He was a self-employed contractor, having built and remodeled many homes. He also loved cabinetry, designing and building furniture and took great pride in his work throughout the years. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, vacationing up north, and spending time with his family and his cat, Vincent. He also enjoyed cooking, grilling, and will be remembered for his unique sense of humor. Donald was a member the Red Wing Elks #845, and the Red Wing Wildlife League.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Kristy (Dave) Hagner of Burnsville, Terry (Desmond) Sande of Welch, Scott (LuAnn) Anderson of Red Wing, Kim (Haven) Hadler of Red Wing, Lori (Ken) White of San Antonio, TX and Donald Jr. of Edina; 15 grandchildren, Nikole, Angie, Katie, Alison, Jayme, Bethany, Emily, Michelle, Scott Ross, Alyssa, Carrie, Sam, Amy, Jenny and Maggie; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Caroline (Roger) Ide of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Warren Anderson and a grandson, Joshua Bohmbach.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 25, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
