Diedrich H. Dettmer age 99 of Lake City died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Lake City Nursing Home.

Diedrich was born July 16, 1908 Bremervorde, Germany to Heinrich & Maria (Meyer) Dettmer. He grew up in Germany and in 1926 he immigrated to the United States. He lived in Brooklyn, NY for a short time until moving to Lake City to be near his brother Klaus. He then bought a farm in the Oak Center area. Diedrich was drafted in to the Army in 1942 and he served during WWII. The native German served as a valuable interpreter during the war. He was discharged in 1945 and he returned to his farm in the Oak Center area. He lived on his farm until 1978 when he moved to Lake City. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.

Diedrich is survived by nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Claus, Hienrich, and Herman; three sisters, Katrina, Maria and Gretchen.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 19, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City with the Rev. Scott Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by VFW post 8729 and American Legion post 110 of Lake City.
