Dennis Joseph Shaheen, 66, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at his home in Red Wing. Dennis was born February 25, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Sophia (Abodeely) Shaheen. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. In 1969, he married Susan Marie Shaw at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, they later divorced. He owned Aid-Care Medical, Inc. for many years. Dennis loved to be outdoors, hunting and biking. He enjoyed volunteering his time with American Diabetes Association, Rotary International, Jaycees, and the Lions Club all in Iowa. Dennis was also involved with Habitat for Humanity in both Iowa and Red Wing until his health no longer permitted him to help. He also was involved with the Lions Club in Red Wing, the grandparenting program at Burnside Elementary, and driving and dispatching rides for Goodhue County, and Faith in Action. He was a member of St. George Eastern Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids and then United Lutheran Church in Red Wing, and was active in the Men in Mission Bible study group. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, he was their biggest fan.
Dennis is survived by his children Rob (Kirsten) Shaheen of Richfield, Minnesota and Dee Sigler of Hager City, Wisconsin; grandchildren Brianna, Jacob, and Nadia Sigler, and Minta Shaheen; siblings DeLane Shaheen of Cedar Rapids, Douglas (Mamie) Shaheen of Cedar Rapids, Delores Haddy of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Yvonne (Joe) Hidder of Cedar Rapids; special friend Marjeen Withoff; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children Susan Shaheen; siblings Donald (Delores) Shaheen and Thomas Shaheen Jr.; brother in law Albert Haddy, sister-in-law Elaine Shaheen.
Memorial Service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at church.
