Dennis R. Johnson

Dennis Robert Johnson, 75, of Red Wing, died Saturday, November 9, 2024, at this home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 24, 1948, in Red Wing to William and Margaret (Simonson) Johnson. He attended schools in Ellsworth and for a short time worked on the family farm. He was drafted in the the US Army during the Vietnam Era, serving from 1968 to 1971 receiving the rank of SP5. He married Carol Johnson and they later divorced. For many years, besides farming, he drove truck for Hager City Express and a couple other trucking companies. On June 7, 1986, he was married to Helen “Bubby” Holden at United Lutheran Church. He resided in Bay City, Lake City and more recently in Red Wing. He enjoyed fishing feeding the birds tending to his roses and his time spent with his special granddaughter, Emilie and dog Foxie.

Dennis is survived by his children, Denniel (John Mickow) Johnson, Robert (Staci) Johnson, Jesse Stewart, Scott Johnson, Bridget Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Heather Johnson and Billy (Nicole) Johnson; special granddaughter, Emilie along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, surviving are his siblings, Jolene (Jim) Rigelman, Char Eckholm, Dwayne (Lori) Johnson, Keith (Heidi) Johnson and Neal (Sandy) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen “Bubby”; one brother, Dean, one daughter, Theresa; grandchildren, Damian, Kelly, Zach and Taylor and his dog, Shelby.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 14, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
