Dennis Childs

Dennis Will Childs, 59, died Monday at his home in Prairie Island. He was born September 29, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wis, the son of Lorenzo and Lucille (Campbell) Childs. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1967 and graduated summa cum laude from Winona State University in 1992. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1967 to 1973. He worked at N. S. P. from 1974 to 1993. He served on the Prairie Island Tribal Council in the late 1980's. He married Bridget Ann Saice on April 5, 1988. He enjoyed working on just about everything from cars to building train sets. He loved family around, whether just for coffee or for his famous spaghetti dinners.

Survivors include his uncle, Joseph W. Whipple; his wife, Bridget; three children: Verlie Mae Dow-White, Christy Ann (Joshua Willgrubs) Childs and Akilah Helene Lucille Childs; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters: Ramona Childs Jones, Claudine Childs Sellers and Reta Childs, all of Prairie Island; two brothers, Michael (Linda) Childs, Sr., and Alan (Melissa) Childs, Sr., all of Prairie Island.

Funeral will be 10 a. m. Friday at the Prairie Island Community Center. Burial will be in Prairie Island Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Childs, Jr., Matthew Childs, Marshall Childs, Peter Sweo, Alan Childs, Jr., Brian Childs, Jesse Childs, Christopher Childs, Mikhail Childs and Charles Childs. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce, Jerry & John Gil, Darrell Campbell, Keith Klindworth, Ivan Looking Horse, Brad Ellison, Joe Campbell, Bruce Campbell, Krishna Miranda and Kiniw Saice and Dennis' many relatives. Services will be 7 p. m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the family's residence and an additional visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Island Community Center and continue until the time of the service.
