Dennis C. Betcher

Dennis Carl Betcher, 54, of Red Wing, went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 13, surrounded by his loving family, after a 4 1/2 year courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 23, 1955, to Leonard and Delores (Finstuen) Betcher and was raised in Red Wing, where he graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1974. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Business followed by a degree in computer technology from Brown Institute in 1991. He married Judy Struck on September 6, 1986 and they lived in Red Wing. He had worked various places in Red Wing including Central Research, Sargent's Nursery and Citizen's Security. He had been employed with Treasure Island for 20 years, retiring as a Promotions Coordinator in 2009. Dennis was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, having served on the church council and as treasurer, and had also ushered. Since 2007 he had been a member of the Red Wing Rotary Club, and was awarded a Paul Harris Award in February. Dennis enjoyed going to his Monday coffee club GEMS, woodworking, NASCAR and car racing, fishing and going on family vacations.


He is survived by his wife, Judy of Red Wing; 4 daughters, Selina Betcher, Jenna Swanson-Betcher, Keshia Betcher and Marissa Betcher all of Red Wing; 1 grandson, Gabriel Swanson; 1 brother Mark (Julie) Betcher of Red Wing and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to St. John's Church, Fairview Red Wing Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
