Deloris C. Burklund

Deloris Clarice Burklund, 92, of Amrey Wisc., formerly of Red Wing, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 8, 2014. She was born August 26, 1921 to Oscar and Hattie (Fredrickson) Pearson in Featherstone Township. She attended school in Burnside and later, Red Wing. She and Frederick Burklund were engaged in 1944 but Fred was deployed before they could be married. Fred served in the Pacific and participated in the battle at Iwo Jima. He returned home safely and after his honorable discharge the couple was married on June 29, 1946. They made their home in Red Wing." Deloris worked for Riedell for many years before working in the junior high school cafeteria. She also worked for Sturdiwheat, eventually retiring at the age of 75. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Frederick died in 1990. At the time of her death she was living in Amery to be closer to her daughter. Deloris enjoyed fishing, baking and taking care of her home. She loved spending time with her family and made yearly trips to New York and Iowa to visit relatives. She will be remembered for her faith and positive outlook which allowed her to always find something worth smiling about even during the most difficult times.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Schmidt; two grandsons, Chris (Denise) Schmidt and Michael Schmidt; three step grandchildren, Jason Linder, Leah (Matt) Copeland and Mick Linder; six great grandchildren, Alaina, Joseph, Laura, Natalee, Nathan and Alex and one great great grandson, Jaiden as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and three siblings, Earl, Ethel and Verneal.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Burial will be 1 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
