Mick died on June 27, 2007 in Fairview Red Wing Medical Center, Red Wing, at the age of 89. He was born Delmar Michael on November 8, 1917, in St. Paul, MN, to Veronica Gertrude Doyle. He was raised by his great-uncle and aunt, Dan and Ebba (Doyle) O'Reilly, in Belle Creek Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota, on the farm that was homesteaded by his great-great-grandparents, Lyman and Sylvia (Gregg) Gilbert in 1855. He attended country school in Belle Creek until the 8th grade, taking up farming with Ebba after Dan's death in 1931.
On June 29, 1939, Mick married Irene Gustafson at St. Columbkills Catholic Church in Belle Creek.
Mick farmed for many years, drove truck, and worked at Evergreen Lanes in Zumbrota with his sons until retirement in 1985. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and card player (especially cribbage). Fishing with his family and friends in Canada and Northern Minnesota were special times for Mick. He had the great fortune to make many memorable trips to the west and east coasts and Alaska. Mick loved playing harmonica, even playing for the residents and staff of the Zumbrota Care Center. He always enjoyed telling stories and jokes.
Mick is survived by one son, Jim (Wendy) O'Reilly of Zumbrota, MN; one daughter, Mary Loven of Ankeny, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Lynn Wingfield, Scot O'Reilly, Tami Hoffman, Debbie Collins, John O'Reilly, Tim O'Reilly, Colleen O'Reilly, LouAnn Wiech, Michelle Mona, Kyle O'Reilly, Kiara O'Reilly, Christine Loven-Santos, and Julie Beinke, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Lola Mardesich of La Quinta, CA, and Doris Schaeffer of Las Alamedas, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1997, three sons: Donald, Daryl, and Dean; one brother, Douglas; and one sister, Arlene Wojcik.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, at the chapel and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
