Delbert William Arden, 91, of Pine River, formerly of Red Wing, died on Sunday Nov. 18, 2012 at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born on August 7, 1921, in Florence Township to George and Rose (Grote) Arden. He attended schools in Wacouta and Hay Creek Township and worked as a farm hand in his younger years in the Red Wing and Goodhue areas. On September 30, 1942 he married Bernadine Dahling. On October 20, 1942 he entered the US Army serving during World War II. He received his training in the 91st infantry division, later transferred to the 70th division. He served under General Patton in the 3rd Army in Germany. On December 8, 1945 he was honorably discharged. On January 9, 1946 he started working for SB Foot Tannery, retiring on October 8, 1982. Bernadine died Dec. 20, 1997. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Hilbert (Mary) Arden of Pine River; one grandson, Bill Arden of Brainerd and one granddaughter, Sandra Arden; two sisters, Donna Vieths of Red Wing and Dorraine Hernlem of Hastings; several nieces and nephews and good friend, Tara. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, Donald and Dorman and one sister, Doris Gernentz.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to the DAV.
