Debra Louise Mathews, 70, of Red Wing, and formerly of Waukesha, Wisconsin, died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester from complications due to Covid-19. She was born August 22, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Ivan and Frances (Stringer) Nimmo. Her family moved to Waukesha, where she graduated from high school in 1968. She married and had 2 children, later divorcing. On April 8, 1994, she was united in marriage to Richard Mathews and they made their home in Waukesha. Debra worked at the Journal Sentinel Newspaper, was an apartment building manager and then switched careers into the hotel industry, working as a manager at several hotel chains in the area. In 2014, she and Richard retired and moved to Red Wing. While in Red Wing, she worked part-time at the St. James Hotel front desk and also at Hanisch Bakery. Debra was an excellent cook and baker and she enjoyed shopping, trips to the casino and crocheting and had made numerous Afghans for family and friends. In 2019, she was diagnosed with cancer, and throughout her illness, she was always a fighter--always persevered.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Mathews of Red Wing; his children, Madeline (Andy) Kett and Chad (Samantha) Mathews; 6 grandchildren, Otto, Klara, Annika, Leif, Chad Jr. and Kaitlyn; her children, Amy Budzein and Mark Ramge and 3 grandchildren, Taylor, Haley and Miranda.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
