Deane A. Fuchs age 78 of Pine Island died suddenly on January 7, 2016 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Carolyn Westlake officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Deane Arden Fuchs was born on January 9, 1937 in Kalmar Township, Olmsted County, MN to Richard and Marjorie (Patchin) Fuchs. He grew up in rural Byron and graduated from Byron High School in 1955. On March 24, 1956 he married Elaine Schuck and they later divorced. On April 2, 1983 he married Illa June Harris in Pine Island. Deane farmed for a short time before working for IBM. Deane worked as an Expeditor at IBM for thirty five years, retiring in 1991. Deane worked part-time in sales for S&M Marine in Oronoco, Johnson Marine in Longville, Kuehn Motors in Rochester, Keller-Williams Realty and Ace Hardware in Zumbrota. He loved hunting, fishing, bowling, riding motorcycle & snowmobile and talking to people.
Deane is survived by wife, Illa June; children, Cindy Saunders of Byron, Diane (Curt) Harris of Osage, IA, Tom (Annette) Fuchs and Craig (Lynn) Fuchs, both of Byron, step-children, Kim (Mike) Ross of Byron and Mike (Dona) Novak of Pine Island; grandchildren, Jared (Lyndee) Pfaffenbach, Adam Pfaffenbach and friend Stephanie Fugleberg, Jenny (Travis) Thein, Casey Saunders, Cassidi (Kelly) Olson, Chelsi Olson and friend Tristan Evenson, Kaitlin Fuchs and friend Brandon Paxton, Brooke Savage, Brady Fuchs, Morgan Savage, Kyle Fuchs, Cole Fuchs and fiancee Kaleigh Taylor, Drew Fuchs, Julie McKay, Mark McKay and Kasi McKay; great-grandchildren, Tayler, Jordyn, Rex, Oliver and Eleanor; siblings, Marlene Braaten and Margaret Forland, both of Byron, Jim (Audrey) Fuchs of Pine Island, and Janet (Bob) Kubat of Rochester; many nieces and nephews.
Deane was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Marjorie; sister, Chelle Green; brothers-in-law, Jim Braaten, Dale Green and Tom Forland.
