Red Wing

Dean William Diercks, 85, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 28, 1939, in Lake City, MN to Harry and Margaret (Heitman) Diercks. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Dean attended country schools in Goodhue County and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1957. He stayed at home after graduating and helped on the family farm and also worked for neighboring farmers when needed. He joined the National Guard in Red Wing in 1961 and went to Fort Ord, CA for six months of active training. After returning he went to work at Marigold Dairies in January 1962, as a wholesale route deliveryman. In 1992, he transferred to the Farmington Processing Plant and worked there until 2002 when he retired.

Dean married MaryAnn Siewert on May 11, 1963, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac. In 1969, he joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac and was on the council and chairman for many years. They raised their three children in the Frontenac area. He had many hobbies over the years: softball, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, hobby farming, traveling, making maple syrup, cutting wood and golfing.

Dean is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, of 61 years; daughters Deborah (Steve) Yulga of Lake City, Barbara (Mark) Swan of Lake City, son Thomas (Danielle) Diercks of Ellsworth, WI; five grandchildren, Megan (Mateen) Kirmani, Tate Yulga, Mariah Diercks, Cole Allar, Mackenzie (Nick) Beavens; one great grandchild, Wheeler Beavens; four siblings: Jerry (Sue) Diercks of Red Wing, Marcia Luhman of Zumbrota, Ruth (Richard) Berg of Hastings, Kathleen Jonas of Red Wing; sisters-in-law Elaine Diercks, Janice Diercks and Linda Diercks all of Red Wing; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings and their spouses, Richard (Elaine) Diercks, John Diercks, Stanley (Marilyn) Diercks, Ralph Diercks, Roger Diercks, Edith Mulligan, Maxine (Dale) Wiech and Judy (Jim) O’Reilly.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be at the Old Frontenac Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
